Hey everyone! I’ve been a bit busy lately, but I’m back with news of an update that has been released on the Public Test Region today. Frankly I’m surprised by some of these changes and am interested to hear your opinions on them.
Let’s dig in to the new hero buffs and nerfs!
- Biotic Rifle
- Damage decreased from 80 to 60
- Biotic Grenade
- Impact damage reduced from 60 to 30
- Impact healing reduced from 100 to 50
While I think the damage change to Ana’s Biotic Rifle and Grenade will be helpful (now there’s less of a chance of her killing people just by tossing the grenade), I think the impact healing from her grenade is quite a steep drop, and should perhaps be looked into a little further. This change will significantly reduce the helpfulness of Ana’s base kit, and although her utility is still great, she’s definitely taking a blow with this nerf.
- New effect added to Total Mayhem passive
- Junkrat no longer hurts himself from his own bombs.
I honestly think it’s hilarious that Junkrat takes damage from his own bombs, but I definitely understand that it can be incredibly annoying to die from a misplaced shot or two. I wonder if they will do the same thing with Pharah’s primary fire in the future.
- Fusion Driver
- Magazine capacity reduced from 200 to 150
- Supercharger (Ultimate)
- Cost increased 15%
I think the capacity change for Orisa’s Fusion Driver will be a good one; it felt like she could shoot forever when I played her on the PTR. She also felt like she got her ability quickly, but So does a Reinhardt if he’s doing enough work. It will be interesting to see how these changes affect the PTR and live when Orisa is released.
- Sound effects and voice lines for entering/exiting stealth reduced to 15 meters
- Cooldown reduced from 6 seconds to 4 seconds
The Stealth noises for Sombra were ridiculously loud, so I’m glad they’re at least reducing the radius that other characters can hear it in. The Translocator change will be useful, and I’m just hoping it doesn’t make Sombra too powerful. I don’t think it will, but as a support main it’s always better to be suspicious of changes to heroes that can murder you quickly.
- Barrier Projection
- Cooldown now starts when the barrier is placed
Previously, the cooldown for Winston’s barrier began when it was destroyed. In this patch it will act like Orisa’s shield, and will now start its cooldown when it’s placed. I think this change will be a very positive thing for Winston as his shield, though it can be used well, often feels underwhelming to me.
- Orb of Destruction
- Alternate fire recovery reduced from 1 second to 0.6 seconds
- Orb of Discord
- Can now target enemies behind barriers
This is a big change for Zenyatta! The Discord Orb is incredibly powerful (+30% damage taken by target), and if he will be able to use it on enemies behind barriers, he can help flankers and keep track of someone behind it. It will be interesting to see how this change affects the game.
