Welcome back to Wooly Plays. I can’t believe it; it’s officially been one entire year since the release of Overwatch. I’ve gotten much, much more than my money’s worth, and I hope that everyone else feels the same!
Without further ado, let’s dig into the changes that came with Overwatch‘s anniversary event!
Rather than going through everything they changed with the newest update again, I’m just going to redirect you to my previous post about Patch 1.11 here. As far as I can tell, everything that I talked about in that post went through to live Overwatch servers.
I am so, so, SO stoked for these new maps! Each one is visually stunning, and they are a really nice change from constantly having to play Ecopoint: Antarctica. They added three maps, all of which are pictured below:
Each map is about the same size and are almost completely symmetrical besides small aesthetic differences. They give you several ways to get to the enemy spawn, and I highly recommend going into the maps and checking out all of the little secrets for yourself!
3v3 Lockout Elimination
The Overwatch team decided to change the way that 3v3 eliminations work by creating a lockout system. Once you win with a group of three heroes, those three heroes are locked for the entire team for the remainder of that game.
They also added a tie-breaker system, which should mean less draws! Rather than revealing the enemy 30 seconds from the end of the match, Athena announces that a capture point will become available. The first team to cap the point or kill the other team wins the round. This eliminates the problem that many players faced with camping Symmetra, Torb, etc. players who wouldn’t let you get close enough to kill them.
1v1 Limited Duel
They also changed the way 1v1s work. Rather than having mystery heroes, each player has the same three heroes to pick from. Once that round is over, they get three different heroes to pick from, and so on and so forth. It’s pretty interesting. I’m not sure if they will get rid of 1v1 Mystery Heroes in favor of this or not, but I for one think that this is a really neat way to 1v1 strategically.
